Here are the top three stories in The Haddams-Killingworth today:
- The Haddam Center sidewalk project starts on July 11. Be prepared and drive slowly! The project will include a complete removal and replacement of the sidewalks on the east side from the jail to the cemetery. The contractor is Costa and Sons out of Windsor, CT. The contract permits work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Town of Haddam)
- Do you want to have your own garden, but you don't think you have the space or the expertise? No problem! The Brainerd Memorial Library is holding a Square Foot Gardening program. According to a press release published on Hk Now, the program will introduce an easy gardening method that utilizes space efficiently, without the waste and work of a typical single row garden. Even beginners with no prior gardening experience can produce large yields of organic vegetable crops on only 20% of the space and with only 10% of the maintenance labor. The Square Foot Gardening (SFG) methodology uses raised beds with a special “soil,” grids for efficient plant spacing and a minimum of seeds, water and tools. Masks are recommended as this is an indoor program. Register by calling 860-345-2204. (HK Now)
- According to the Bristol Press, "Gov. Ned Lamont signed an executive order Friday creating a new commission charged with planning the state's multi-year celebration and commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence signing. The Connecticut Semi quincentennial Commission will be a state-level group, similar to the United States Semi quincentennial Commission recently established by Congress. The executive order requires the panel of volunteers to be wide-ranging, including not just representatives from historical organizations and state officials but also designees from the state's two federally recognized tribes. The 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and subsequent formation of the U.S. will occur on July 4, 2026." (Patch)
