Here are the top three stories in The Haddams-Killingworth today:
- While unemployment remains high following the pandemic, don't let that deter you. Whether you're looking for full-time or part-time work, we've got you covered. Each week, Patch and ZipRecruiter compile a list of the latest local jobs posted in the region. Here are some of the top jobs now available in The Haddams-Killingworth and across greater Connecticut. (The Haddams-Killingworth Patch)
- A brush fire that occurred on Saturday on East Shore Drive in the Lake Hayward section of East Haddam took approximately 625 gallons of water to contain the fire. Reportedly the fire started from spontaneous combustion from a large compost pile. No injuries were reported (East Haddam Fire Department via Facebook)
- The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that about 1,300 people die each year nationally due to extremely hot weather, according to a CT Insider article. However, as Connecticut suffers through its second extended heatwave this summer, it is worth noting the state does not have a moratorium on warm weather utility shut-offs like the one that exists during the winter heating season. State Senator Norman Neddleman, D-Essex, co-chairman of the Connecticut legislature’s energy and technology committee, said he is open to considering legislation that would prohibit the shut-off electric service during periods of extreme heat. Mitch Gross, a spokesman for Eversource Energy, said the company has “voluntarily suspended residential disconnections during this current heatwave.” (CT Insider)
