Celebrate the Spring Season with a Visit to the Lyme Art Association

Enjoy the Wonderous Art in An Exhibition in Four Acts & the Lovely Pastel Works in Jane Penfield's Solo Show, Luminous Pastels

The Lyme Art Association invites you to its historic galleries this spring to see An Exhibition in Four Acts, an exhibit showcasing the diversity of styles created by its talented member artists. Each juried show in Four Acts looks at the world through a different lens: Structural, Spring Ahead, Weather or Not, and Abstracted. Running concurrently is the Jane Penfield Solo Show,

Luminous Pastels.

Structural examines architecture's influence upon the natural landscape, and explores the relationship between the built environment and the natural world, highlighting the tension, harmony, and dialogue between human-made structures and organic surroundings. Spring Ahead is a vibrant exploration of renewal, growth, and transformation, and is inspired by Spring’s blossoming flowers and budding trees, and by themes of rebirth and awakening. Weather is a force that is both beyond our control and affects everything from the way we live, work, and travel, to the ways we connect with nature and each other. Weather or Not, playing on the unpredictability of weather, challenged artists to interpret weather, not only as a natural occurrence, but also as a metaphor for life's uncertainties and the passage of time. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, abstraction is the art of pulling away. Abstracted showcases the abstractions of life and images based on reality and pulled away into an internal space. Artists were encouraged to use nonobjective artmaking that contemplates materiality, surface, and process.
