According to the board, all misappropriated funds have been recovered and returned to the league.

Danny Hayes, president of East Lyme Little League, said in the post the board is “deeply disappointed” by the breach of trust.

“We are grateful that the money has been recovered and that our league remains financially stable moving forward,” Hayes said.

The board indicated it is taking measures to help prevent any future thefts. It announced financial safeguards going forward, including dual authorization for expenditures, quarterly independent financial reviews, and increased board oversight of financial activities.

“We want to reassure our community that this situation will not impact our programs, fields, or future seasons,” Hayes said. “Our focus continues to be on the kids, and we are committed to moving forward stronger than ever.”
