Many delicious Thanksgiving foods we look forward to can cause diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, or pancreatitis.

Keep in mind that raw eggs and raw or undercooked turkey may contain salmonella bacteria, onions and garlic (including powders) can be toxic, and turkey bones can actually splinter and perforate the intestines. A small amount of cooked turkey meat is your best bet for a safe and tasty treat. Skip the skin, which can contain marinade, spices, oils, and fats which can cause stomach upset.

Keep your kitchen trash secure and take it out at the end of the day. Bones, onions, chocolate, and other Thanksgiving goodies are hard for a curious pet to resist!

Have a peaceful holiday.

With Gratitude,

Your friends at Old Lyme Veterinary Hospital
