Rocky Neck State Park Closes Early Due To Large Crowds

EAST LYME, CT — Another prominent Connecticut state park was forced to close early Saturday afternoon due to its parking lot being at full capacity on a hot day.

According to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Rocky Neck State Park, located at 244 W. Main St. in the Niantic section of East Lyme, experienced high crowd volumes, resulting in the park's parking lot being full to capacity.

When this happens, state officials regularly have to close parks to newcomers because of park and parking lot capacity being met.

DEEP announced the closure via Twitter at about 3:54 p.m. Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Silver Sands State Park in Milford had to close early due to the same circumstances.

In addition, Millers Pond State Park, in Haddam, was also closed due to parking lot capacity being met.
