Vernon Police Make Arrest In October Shooting On Union Street

A Norwich man is in custody on a pair of high bonds in connection with a shooting last fall in Vernon.

VERNON, CT — A suspect is in custody in connection with an October shooting incident in Vernon.

Vernon police released details of the arrest Tuesday.

According to a news release, on Dec. 03, Vernon Police Detectives and members of the Norwich Violent Crimes Task Force took 32-year-old Norwich resident Samuel Rivera into custody for his involvement in an early morning shooting that occurred on Union Street in Vernon on Oct. 5.

Rivera was charged with 10 counts each of criminal possession of a firearm and the illegal discharge of a firearm, according to judicial system records. He was also charged on that warrant with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle and first-degree reckless endangerment, records show.

Rivera is also facing interfering with an officer and tampering with evidence charges and is currently in custody on a pair of $400,000 bonds, according to judicial system records.

He was arraigned on Dec. 5 and is due back before a judge in Rockville Superior Court on Jan. 17, records show.
