Donations Sought To Help West Hartford Pooch With Gruesome Injury
A tiny little female dog with a 'horrific' eye injury was found roaming the streets of West Hartford over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A cute little canine with a horrific eye injury was found roaming the streets of West Hartford over Thanksgiving break, springing the town's animal control department, an area rescue organization and a good Samaritan into action.
Now, the tiny pooch — named Clarice — is doing just fine and is in a foster home after its owner had to make a heart-breaking decision to giver her up.
But, the cost for Clarice's badly needed surgery is pretty high and the town and the animal rescue organization behind her care is asking for some help from the public.

It all started Friday, Nov. 25, according to West Hartford Animal Control, when the little dog was found roaming the streets with a gruesome eye injury, an injury animal control officials said was "horrific."
West Hartford Animal Control tracked down the dog's owner and, sadly, the owner could not afford the necessary veterinary care.

As a result, the dog went into the custody of the town and was, immediately, taken care of.
"We are thankful that we found this sweetie's owner and they did the right thing," wrote WHAC via social media. "They surrendered her to us so we could get her into the hands of a rescue called 'Westley's Wish K9 Rescue."
That organization, based in Burlington, is a dog rescue outfit committed to helping troubled pooches get the help they need, help that Clarice — named so by Westley's — badly needed.
Despite the horrible nature of her injuries and the high expense of her veterinary care, Westley's had some good news to report Saturday, Nov. 26.
They said not only had Clarice been released, but she "is doing great and she is headed to her foster home."
Originally estimated at $4,824, the cost for Clarice's care, according to Westley's, was actually much less, $1,792.
Westley's said $565 was raised as of Saturday and it was looking for further donations to help pay for Clarice's care, as well as to just help the organization do what it does.
Westley's credited the good Samaritan who brought the hurt dog to a veterinarian and then got it to West Hartford Animal Control.
From there, Clarice was put in the care of Westley's.
"We agreed to take her in so she could finally be pain free," wrote Westley's.
The group is asking folks to either donate or share posts about the situation to raise awareness and, hopefully, donations.
