"We anticipate about one week of milling and about two weeks to complete the paving. Road closures and detours will be in place while the work is being performed," wrote the town in an announcement.

"Both police officers and flaggers will assist with traffic control. Motorists are reminded to be cautious while traveling on the milled surface and alert for raised manhole structures."

To avoid any issues, motorists are being asked to seek alternate routes if possible.

In addition, King Philip Drive (Fuller Drive to Tumble Brook Lane) is tentatively scheduled to be reconstructed during the summer.

Roadway reconstructions are more complicated than re-paving and therefore take longer to complete, about one to two months.

The work generally includes the replacement of the existing curb with a granite curb, replacement of existing driveway aprons with concrete aprons, replacement of selective sidewalk and drainage structures, re-establishment of the roadway base material, and paving.

The town maintains 217 miles of roadways and averages 8.5 miles of paving each year, including reconstruction and repaving projects.

The engineering division annually performs visual pavement condition assessments and rates them from "excellent" to "extremely poor."

In 2024, 17 miles of roadway were rated "extremely poor," and 34 miles were rated in "poor" condition.
