Station 4 Wins First-Ever West Hartford Firefighter Chili Cookoff

Lt. Jeff Dufresne's Bishops Corner Blazing Chili is the top choice out of six entries.

West Hartford Fire Station 4 earned the bragging rights as having the best chili in town in the first-ever Firefighter Cookoff on Friday.

Lt. Jeff Dufresne's Bishops Corner Blazing Chili was voted the best out of the six entries - one from each of the town's five fire stations and one from fire headquarters.

Station 1's Pride of the East Side placed second, while headquarters' Gilligan's Island Chili was third.

The event, held at the West Hartford Senior Center, was judged by 50 people who voted on their favorite chili.

As a reward for its big victory, Station 4 received a plaque that it will keep until next year.

"There's certainly bragging rights," said Chief Gary Allyn.

The event was held in conjunction with Fire Safety Week and included a program aimed at preventing kitchen fires and cooking with fire safety.
