Wesleyan University professor Dr. Khalilah Brown-Dean, host of the CT Public radio show and podcast “Disrupted,” will be the keynote speaker at the Luminary Celebration. She is the Rob Rosenthal Distinguished Professor of Civic Engagement as well as the Executive Director of the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life at Wesleyan.

Dr. Brown-Dean's appearance at the Luminary Celebration is generously supported by Aurora’s partner Liberty Bank. “We are thankful for their meaningful investment,” said Steadman.

She added that Aurora is also indebted to the tireless efforts of this year’s Luminary Planning Committee, a group of volunteers who have been working for months to promote the event to friends and businesses throughout Greater Hartford.

Chaired by Dr. Kyra Dorsey of West Hartford, the Luminary committee comprises Rauchell Beckford-Anderson, Karen Binkhorst, Tracey Flynn, Katherine Hall, Maureen Kennedy, Elaine Leshem, Mickey Mattei, Mary Millican, Michelle O'Connell, and Stephani Roman.

About Aurora Women and Girls Foundation

The Aurora Women and Girls Foundation was founded in 2000 by a group of community leaders who sought to lift up women and girls through focused philanthropy. Aurora galvanizes resources to increase gender and racial equity through economic security, educational attainment, and leadership for women and girls in the Greater Hartford region. We envision strong, equitable communities in which all women and girls realize their potential and are full, valued, and sought-after participants -- economically, politically, and socially.
