Images Show Level Of Destruction After West Hartford Tractor-Trailer Crash: UPDATE

The accident late Tuesday morning backed up traffic on Interstate 84 for much of the day.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The company called in to help clean up Tuesday's tractor-trailer crash in West Hartford posted photos on Wednesday, Dec. 3, showing the extent of what it faced.

An overturned tractor-trailer on Interstate 84 in West Hartford caused a several-hour traffic mess for motorists already dealing with wintry weather.

After several hours, the accident was finally cleared by about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the accident happened on I-84 West between exits 43 and 42, resulting in the closure of the right and center lanes.

The wreck was first reported at 11:13 a.m., and it appears to have been cleared by mid-afternoon on Tuesday, with no major injuries reported.

Wednesday, Environmental Services Inc., out of South Windsor, posted photos of the accident's aftermath.

With icy and snowy conditions visible on the highway, the images show the tractor-trailer resting upside down off the highway into a small ravine, the trailer badly damaged.

The company said its "HAZMAT teams responded to a tractor-trailer rollover on (Interstate) 84 westbound. The reefer tank on the trailer needed to be drilled and evacuated prior to the trailer being uprighted," wrote the company.
