Upscale Burger Restaurants in Hartford, West Hartford Closing

The Connecticut-based company cited 'fiscal responsibility' in its decision to close the eateries.

WEST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — An award-winning upscale burger restaurant chain has announced it will be closing three eateries this Sunday, Aug. 31, including ones in Hartford and West Hartford.

Plan B, known for gourmet Angus beef burgers, craft beers, and fine bourbon, announced Tuesday that it is not renewing leases in those locations.

The three restaurants closing are Plan B's on 138 Park St., West Hartford; 35 Front St. in Hartford; and one in Springfield, Mass.

Company officials cited fiscal reasons for the closures. Plan B will still have restaurants in Simsbury, Glastonbury, and Milford. The closures were announced on the company's Facebook page.

“This decision reflects a balance between fiscal responsibility and staying true to the experience our guests and teams deserve,” said Allie J. Gamble, founder and chief executive officer.

"The company remains focused on delivering its boutique dining experience, one that emphasizes craft, care, and community. These values have defined Plan B from the beginning and continue to guide its future."

Plan B employees in the three, soon-to-be-closed restaurants will receive severance pay, while management is also looking to find places at the three remaining restaurants for laid-off workers.

Meanwhile, company officials said Plan B gift cards will be honored at the three remaining restaurants.

For now, company leaders said the focus is on the remaining Plan Bs.

“This isn’t just about restaurants closing, it’s about honoring what those places meant to people,” said Gamble. “Our goal now is to carry that same energy and connection into the restaurants we continue to own and operate, while holding deep gratitude for the communities that helped us grow.

“Plan B is here to stay,” said Gamble. “This period in time will be used to step in closer and stay focused on what we do best, bringing people together over great food, bourbon, and beer. We’re making sure the next chapter of our story is even stronger.”
