West Hartford To Celebrate Electric Transportation

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford Town Hall will become an oasis for all forms of electric transportation on Saturday, as green methods of propulsion will be celebrated.

On Saturday, Sept. 20, the annual "West Hartford Electric Showcase," hosted by the Sustainable West Hartford Commission, Sierra Club CT, Third Act CT, and others, will take place from 10 am to 1 pm in the town hall's rear parking lot, 50 S. Main St.

West Hartford’s Electric Showcase coincides with Sun Day, a nationwide mobilization that marks America's clean energy transformation, and National Drive Electric Month, a nationwide celebration to raise awareness of the many benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more

As part of these national events, the West Hartford Electric Showcase will feature:

• A showcase of electric vehicles, electric bikes and scooters, electric lawn care, solar, heat pumps, battery charging, and more.
• E-bike test rides
• Demonstration of using the Town's free drop-off food scrap bins.
• Guided tour of the Town Hall solar array.
• Family-friendly with activities for kids.

The day will allow attendees to get questions answered from neighbors who own and operate these technologies.

"For decades, we've called this stuff 'alternative energy.' We want to drive home the point that that's not true anymore. This is the straightforward, common-sense, obvious way to power our future, the cheapest way to drive down electric prices, the easiest way to build a working America," said Bill McKibben, the driving force behind Sun Day and a pioneering voice in the climate movement.

McKibben, co-founder of 350.org and a leading environmental author, has been instrumental in bringing global attention to climate change and the potential of renewable energy.

Through events like these, we are showing that solar power, electric vehicles, e-bikes, and electric lawn care aren’t just the future, they’re the present,” said Samantha Dynowski, state director of Sierra Club’s Connecticut Chapter.
