Surrounded by her loved ones, Najma Mujahid Hussain, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, 62, of West Hartford, passed away on November 5th, 2025.
Najma Hussain and her husband, Syed Hussain, settled in West Hartford, CT during the early 80’s, where they laid their roots. Married for 42 years, Najma and Syed were inseparable.
Najma focused heavily and set her sights on community service, helping the less fortunate through charitable events, volunteer work, and fresh warm meals, all while taking care of her elderly in-laws, four brothers-in-law, five children, and husband. Najma cherished her role as the matriarch of a large family, running a household of 12 family members. Najma broke down many cultural, racial, and economic barriers as she actively volunteered in the community and entered the workforce.

With an open-door policy, family or stranger, Najma deeply cared for those that crossed her path, and she showed her kindness through her famously delicious warm meals. As most would know, Najma was considered a mother and caretaker to all. Her laughter, kind and gentle demeanor, made her a confidant to many. Family and friends from near and far would routinely travel to spend time with Najma and, of course, enjoy her delicious food. She enjoyed entertaining and showing love to family and friends with her food. She was an ever-supportive wife to her husband of 42 years, and she drove the advancement of her 1st generation American family to succeed and prosper while embracing them with love.
As time went on, Najma partnered with her husband to start up many businesses and furthermore stayed true to her family roots transitioning each of her sisters-in-law into motherhood, deeply caring for and raising all her nieces and nephews, and then her grandchildren who adored her dearly. Helping to raise and nurture multiple generations of children was Najma’s most cherished achievement.

As a mother, Najma instilled respect, humility, family, and community into her five children. Supporting them, empowering them to succeed, and grow in their own path, is something she held near and dear to her heart. Najma’s children adore and cherish memories of their mother singing, cooking, providing guidance without judgment and helping them flourish in anything they endeavored. Najma was an incredibly supportive mother who stood by her family.
Najma is survived by her husband, five children, and five grandchildren.
