West Hartford Rec Announces Winter Hoops/Tennis/Pickleball Court Policy
With Jack Frost nipping at the noses of local weekend athletes, the town has said when folks can still play.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — One of the worst times of year for weekend athletes is wintertime, when people's basketball, tennis, or pickleball habits take a beating with the weather.
But there are times when Mother Nature cooperates, and folks can get a game in.
With winter, essentially, upon us, the West Hartford Department of Leisure Services made it clear this week that while its tennis, pickleball, and hoops courts could be open during the winter, there are limits.

Essentially, the town said courts will be locked up if the forecast calls for snow or there is standing snow/ice.
Users are also prohibited from removing snow or ice from courts to play, said the town.

Parks impacted by the rules are:
• Buena Vista Park: Six pickleball courts and two tennis courts.
• Fernridge Park: four tennis courts.
• Whiting Lane: two tennis courts.
• Wolcott Park: six pickleball courts; two tennis courts; and two basketball courts. (Lights are on at Wolcott from Dec. 1 to March 1 when the courts are open).
