West Hartford Ups Cost To Dump Yard Waste
Town announces price increase for the brown barrels.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — Residents looking to properly dispose of their yard waste now have to cough up a few extra dollars, with the town recently announcing a price change to do just that.
According to the Town of West Hartford, the price for a 95-gallon, brown cart is now $90 after being $73.11 since 2019.
The announcement was made last week.

"Public Works has been able to keep the price at $73.11 since 2019 until recently when supply chain issues and inflation have driven up the price, just like so many other products and services," wrote the town in the announcement.
The town utilizes brown carts to collect yard waste, defined by the town as leaves, pine needles, pine cones, acorns, twigs, dead plant matter and thatch.

Yard waste is not permitted in trash carts or recycling carts, which are also available to residents.
"Separating yard waste from trash greatly reduces the volume and cost of disposing trash at the regional trash facilities and reduces the amount of methane gas released into the atmosphere," wrote the town.
"It’s a great way for West Hartford residents to contribute to West Hartford’s environmental sustainability efforts."
Yard waste may also be placed in 30-gallon. bio-degradable paper brown bags or bundled with organic twine.
Yard waste is collected bi-weekly on the town's recycling days.
