A high-wind advisory will go into effect at 6 p.m. Tuesday and flood watches have been issued for the entire state.
"We can expect the heavy rain to melt much of the snowpack from Sunday's snowstorm," wrote the town. "The melting snow (equal to 1 inch of water) may add to the 2-to-4 inches of expected rainfall and could cause moderate flooding later tonight and early Wednesday morning."

West Hartford officials issued some reminders on how to prepare and prevent flooding:
- Slushy snow melt can clog the tops of catch basins. Water will be slower to recede. If you are able, and it is safe to do so, clear the top of the catch basin by your property.
- Clear downspouts, and check sump pumps. Make sure water has somewhere to drain away from your home.
- Watch overhead for damaged tree branches from Sunday's snowstorm.
- Watch for fallen trees and branches in general during high wind periods.
- Secure loose items in your yard.
- Keep valuables on high shelves when storing items in basements or in areas that are prone to flooding. Do this before the storm.
- Stay out of basements when they become flooded.
- Never drive into standing water or go around road-closure signs.
- Report flooding drains and streets as soon as possible to the town. Call 860-523-5203.
- Make sure you are prepared in case you lose power.
- Stay off bridges over fast-moving water.
- Make sure you are signed up for West Hartford’s West Hartford’s Community Advisory Notification System.
