West Hartford's Hall HS Placed On Security Alert, Details Unveiled: UPDATE
No visitors were allowed for much of Tuesday as police and school officials investigated reports of a weapon in the building.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — School officials in West Hartford said Hall High School was placed on alert Tuesday morning due to a security concern involving a reported weapon in the building.
West Hartford Superintendent of Schools Paul Vicinus confirmed that Hall was put in "secure the classroom" mode on Tuesday morning.
He described this measure as being a step below a total school lockdown, but said no visitors are being admitted there.

Tuesday afternoon, the Hall High School administration issued a notice to parents and members of the school community about what happened.
According to the letter, at approximately 8:47 a.m., the school received a report involving a possible weapon at Hall High School.

"West Hartford police responded immediately, and we initiated a 'Secure the Classroom' protocol to ensure the safety of all students and staff," wrote Hall.
"Out of an abundance of caution, police thoroughly investigated the concern, no weapon was located, and we were able to lift the Secure the Classroom protocol at 12:43 p.m. Throughout the incident, students, staff, and our school remained safe."
Hall officials thanked the West Hartford Police Department, as well as school security, students, and staff members, for their collective responses.
"Their calm cooperation allowed us to address the situation efficiently and effectively," wrote the school.
School officials did not release any more information about the incident.
"Please know that your student’s safety is always our highest priority, and we will continue to act with the greatest care and urgency whenever a safety concern arises," wrote Hall officials.
"We also understand that situations like this can feel alarming and may bring up a range of emotions. If your student needs any support, please reach out to their administrator or school counselor. We are here to help and to ensure that all members of our community feel safe and supported at Hall High School."
WFSB Channel 3 reported the situation was caused by a report that a student claimed to overhear a conversation indicating a weapon was in a bathroom, a situation that has proved unfounded.
Hall is one of two public high schools in West Hartford, the other being Conard High School.
