2 Killed In Wethersfield Crash, Driver Arrested, State Police Say

WETHERSFIELD, CT — Two people were killed in a crash in Wethersfield on late Friday and the driver has been charged, state police said.

Just before midnight, a 2013 Infiniti G37/journey/sport was traveling on Route 5/15 Northbound in the area of exit #85.

"For an unknown reason, Vehicle 1 veered from the left lane and collided with the metal beam guard rail off the right shoulder," state police said in a news release. "Vehicle 1 then rolled over, down the embankment before coming to its final rest."

The driver, Alexis Garcia, 23, from, Springfield, Massachusetts, reported minor injuries while two passengers suffered life-threatening injuries and were later pronounced dead at a local hospital, state police said.

Joshua Gonzalez, 25, of Springfield, Mass. and Edwin Abraham Guzman, 21, of Chicopee, Mass. were both killed as a result of the crash, state police said.

"Upon the investigation (Garcia) was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol," state police said. "A standardized field sobriety test was given which he subsequently failed."

Garcia is charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, and he was held on a $250,000 bond.
