Bear Invades Wethersfield's Historic District: Police

The Wethersfield Police Department is urging folks to be 'bear aware' following the Tuesday afternoon sighting.

WETHERSFIELD, CT β€” Local police say a black bear invaded a prominent part of town Tuesday, prompting local law enforcers to urge folks to be "bear aware."

According to the Wethersfield Police Department at about 2:05 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, a black bear was sighted on Broad Street, Middletown Avenue, and Spring Street in the Old Wethersfield area.

Old Wethersfield is the town's touristy historic district.

Police said the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has been contacted and is responding to the area.

"Please see below for a reminder of do's and don'ts if you observe or encounter a black bear," wrote the WPD.

This sighting comes as bears are, more and more, being seen outside as the weather warms up.
