Neo-Nazi Material Found In Hands Of Wethersfield Child: Senator

According to state Sen. Matthew Lesser, D-Middletown, several flyers from a Neo-Nazi group have been found in Wethersfield.

WETHERSFIELD, CT β€” As the nation's election season tensions appear to be boiling over, an incident on a Wethersfield school bus last week has hit very close to home.

According to state Sen. Matthew Lesser, D-Middletown, who represents Wethersfield in the 9th Senate District, a Neo-Nazi flyer ended up in the hands of a local first-grader on a Wethersfield school bus.

Lesser said the Nazi flyers, by the Neo-Nazi group NSC-13, were found in Wethersfield last week.

He said Friday, Oct. 11, that the timing of the discovery, near the High Holy Day in the Jewish religion, makes this incident especially egregious.

"Today is the eve of Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Jews around the world, so this is a good opportunity to teach Wethersfield students and everyone about the diversity and tolerance that some people may despise but which actually makes America so strong and successful," wrote Lesser in a statement.

" It’s also an opportunity to talk about the ugly history of Nazism, which our greatest generation defeated in World War II but which, unfortunately, still exists is some small, dank corners of the world.:

Lesser said he's spoken with both Wethersfield town and school officials on the matter.

"I know that Wethersfield will move on from this incident because we are greater than any hatred or division,” wrote Lesser in a statement.

The Wethersfield situation comes as Berlin police are investigating "propaganda" flyers being distributed around town against "migrants."

Meanwhile, WFSB Channel 3 said West Hartford police are also investigating a similar situation of hate flyers being seen on that town's border.

Lesser serves the 9th Senate District towns of Cromwell, Middletown, Newington, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield.

Issues of hate and racism have grown especially heated amidst a highly divided presidential election, with one side accused of accepting the support of groups similar to NSC-14.
