SUV Nearly Hits Cop, Slams Into Home In Wethersfield: Police

The Wethersfield Police Department is still investigating the crash, which happened Wednesday morning.

WETHERSFIELD, CT β€” Local police said they are investigating a crash Wednesday morning in which a police officer was nearly hit by an out-of-control vehicle that eventually slammed into a home.

According to the Wethersfield Police Department, the accident happened at about 8:22 a.m. when an officer assigned to a traffic detail was nearly hit by a Ford Edge SUV going east on Wells Road near Edward Street.

Police said the operator of the Ford was having a medical emergency, sending the vehicle off the roadway.

The Ford struck a Subaru going on Wells Road and then collided with a residence at 280 Wells Road, damaging a natural gas line.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department responders arrived and the operator was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation, police said.

"A license seizure was conducted in accordance with state procedures due to the circumstances of the incident," police said in a statement.

The Wethersfield Building Department showed up at the scene to assess the structural damage to the home.

Meanwhile, police said, Connecticut Natural Gas arrived and confirmed there was no gas leak or ongoing hazard there.

The accident is still under further investigation.
