WETHERSFIELD, CT — Numerous crews are battling a tractor trailer fire on Interstate 91 in Wethersfield Friday morning.
At 7:42 a.m. Troop H- Hartford responded to I-91 northbound in the area of exit 24 in Wethersfield for an active tractor trailer fire. The cab of the tractor trailer was reportedly fully engulfed, and the contents of its trailer contained 7,500 gallons of fuel, state police said. The driver made their way out of the vehicle to safety and sustained no injuries.
Wethersfield and Rocky Hill Fire Departments responded to extinguish the fire, and Troopers quickly shut down the highway for safety, officials said. This closure included I-91 northbound, southbound and oncoming traffic from Route 3 to I-91 southbound. Given the trailer's hazardous contents, Troopers worked quickly to clear surrounding motorists from the area, state police said.
