Wethersfield Man Drove Drunk, Had Loaded Gun In Route 9 Crash: Police

The 53-year-old suspect will appear in Middletown Superior Court next month following Monday's accident.

WETHERSFIELD/CROMWELL, CT β€”A Wethersfield man is accused of driving drunk and carrying a dangerous weapon after a three-vehicle, rollover crash on Route 9 in Cromwell on Monday.

According to Connecticut State Police Tuesday, Marvin Madison, 53, of Wethersfield, was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs; failure to maintain proper lane; failure to drive at a reasonable distance apart, resulting in an accident; improper turns; failure to notify state Department of Motor Vehicles on a change of address; improper storage of a pistol/revolver in a motor vehicle; and illegal carry of a firearm under the influence of alcohol/drugs.

Police said Madison was released from custody on $12,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court on Jan. 7, 2025.

According to state police, on Monday, Dec. 16, at approximately 6:22 p.m., personnel from Troop H in Hartford were dispatched to a three-car motor vehicle accident on Route 9 south's Exit 29 ramp to Interstate 91 northbound in Cromwell.

Police determined the sequence of events began with a rear-end collision, which then caused the at-fault vehicle to run off the roadway to the right.

According to police, The vehicle then collided with a light pole and a guardrail, which caused the vehicle to roll over.

During the rollover, the front driver-side tire disconnected from the vehicle and collided with an un-involved vehicle that was traveling northbound, police said.

All parties involved were accounted for, no injuries were reported on scene and all three vehicles were later towed from damage sustained, police said.

Police said the operator who was found at fault was identified as Madison.

"While speaking with Madison, troopers observed visible signs of impairment," wrote police Tuesday.

Police said Madison agreed to submit to testing and subsequently failed field sobriety tests.

He was then taken into custody, with a search also revealing he was carrying a loaded .380 ACP caliber pistol, police said.

The pistol and its ammunition were seized as evidence in this investigation, police said.

Madison was transported to Troop H, where he was processed on several charges.
