Civilian Follows Alleged Drunk Driver Home
Police arrested a Wilton man in his driveway after a civilian followed him home for allegedly swerving and almost hitting other vehicles.

Last Wednesday at around 7 p.m., Wilton Police arrested a 55-year-old Wilton resident in his own driveway after a civilian called Norwalk police while following the man and reported that the man’s vehicle had been dangerously swerving on the road according to Captain John Lynch of the .
The civilian said that a vehicle was “swerving all over the road, almost striking several vehicles on several occasions,” said Lynch.
The civilian pursued the allegedly-swerving vehicle from Norwalk and crossed over the Wilton town line; when this happened, Norwalk Police switched the caller over to Wilton Police, police said. When the accused, identified as Brad Berman, of Chestnut Hill Road, pulled into his driveway, the civilian stopped outside while still on the phone with Wilton Police, according to police.

Police arrived and entered Berman’s property via the driveway, where they were early enough to catch the accused still in his car, said Lynch. Police charged Berman with failure to drive right and DUI. He was released on a promise to appear in court, according to police.
Emergency situations allow for civilians to use handheld phones (it was not clear if this civilian was using a handheld or a device). Lynch said that this situation could be an example of such an emergency.
