Driving with a Fake License Because of DUI
Wilton police caught a driver after he attempted to dodge police for speeding.

Last Wednesday, April 18 at 6 a.m, spotted a car speeding on Rte. 7; when an officer went to follow the vehicle, the vehicle attempted to dart into the driveway of to avoid detection, police said. When an officer questioned the driver as to why he tried to dodge the police, the driver said that he did not have a license, police said.
Although the driver, Melvin Barrientos, 31, of Godfrey Place in Wilton, did not have a real license, he was carrying a fake one, according to police. Barrientos claimed he obtained the fake ID “‘from a Mexican guy,’” whom he did not pay, according to Deputy Chief Crosby of the Wilton Police Department.
Barrientos said he had the fake ID because his real license was non-functional due to a previous DUI arrest, according to police.

Police charged Barrientos with third-degree forgery, operating without a license, and speeding. He was released on a $500 bond and given a promise to appear in court, according to reports.
