Stolen check from mailbox

A Wilton resident reported a  larceny attempt when someone attempted to cash a check worth $4,800 from the resident’s bank, police said. The citizen believed a check had been stolen from the citizen’s mailbox on Gruman Hill Road, according to police. The bank did not cash the check and contacted the bank’s real owner, police said. This investigation is ongoing.

3/5: Police arrested a 57-year old man on Rte. 7 near Westport Road for DUI after stopping the man’s vehicle for travelling at night without its headlights on, according to arrest reports. Police said that the driver, Harry Hwang, of Hillandale Road, Danbury, was given sobriety tests after police  smelled alcohol on his breath, and the accused subsequently “failed” them, according to reports. He was released on a promise to appear in court.

3/1: Police responded to a call from a citizen who believed to have heard gunshots coming from around Miller-Driscoll School. Upon inspection, police found that the noise came from firecrackers, police said.

Stolen stop sign

3/1: A temporary stop sign positioned at the corner of Belden Hill and Seer Hill is reported to have been stolen, according to police. Police said that someone took the sign and left the base.

Lost Kindle

2/28: A Kindle Fire, valued at $250, was reported lost at Middlebrook School.
