Four Car Crash Sends Two to Hospital in Wilton

A four-car accident on Rte. 7 near Deerfield Road which concluded in a head-on collision sent two people to the hospital last Thursday, May 17. 

reports state that Nicole Hannequin, 30, of Coal Pit Road in Danbury, who was operating a 1999 Ford sedan, crossed over the southbound double yellow line and drove into the northbound lane, heading directly towards a 2010 GMC SUV; the GMC attempted to swerve out of the way of Hannequin but was struck by Hannequin’s Ford and the GMC was pushed into the adjacent northbound lane, causing it to sideswipe into a Volkswagen sedan.

The Ford then travelled further northbound until it crashed head-on into a fourth vehicle, a 2004 four door Jeep, according to police reports.

Reports state that the GMC’s driver, Francesca Datillo, 45, of Charcoal Ridge Street in Danbury, and her 16 year-old passenger were transported to Norwalk Hospital for injuries; Datillo complained of rib pain and the 16 year-old complained of head pain.

Hannequin told police that while she had been smoking, some smoke had agitated her eyes, making her “become teary” and “unable to see clearly,” according to police reports. Hannequin was found not to possess a valid driver’s license, according to police reports. She complained of hand injuries due to airbag deployment but refused hospital transport, police said. Hannequin was charged with an infraction of statute 14-236, which involves driving outside of the established lane, and statute 14-36(a), operating a vehicle without a license, according to police reports and information from CGA.gov.

The operator of the Jeep, Elizabeth O’neil, 45, of Assonet, Mass. said that “before she knew what was happening the car… hit her car head on,” police reports state. O’neil was not transported for injuries.

The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as Colleen Gallagher, 42, of Dahl Ave in Stratford, did not complain of injuries, according to reports.

Both the Ford and the GMC were towed from the scene, reports state.
