Update, 6:17 p.m.: A reader has pointed out that the Warrior Nation blog cited in this article has been updated to include relevent information: In Feb. of 2007, Neumann was reportedly placed on leave for an " 'inappropriate relationship”' with a senior girl on the soccer team, according to the blog.
Warrior Nation also reports that its sources said that this current incident "does not regard a relationship, but a physical incident that occurred at a practice."
In an archived article of The Hour dated March 22, 2006, Neumann is quoted as saying, "'I'm not a yeller or a screamer. That's not my personality. I'm more of the type to speak softly and carry a big stick. As long as the players know what I expect of them, I won't be over the top." The article seems to have been written shortly after Neumann obtained his postion as head coach.
Original article
Scott Neumann, the physical education teacher at (WHS) and Wilton Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, “has been placed on administrative leave until further notice, pending the outcome of an investigation by school officials of allegations of misconduct,” according to a brief statement sent by Wilton Schools’ Central Office.
“Wilton High School administrators are taking this situation very seriously. Since the investigation is still ongoing, it would be unfair to draw any conclusions at this time,” the statement concludes.
Phone calls to the Central Office were not immediately returned on early Wednesday afternoon. WHS Principal Robert O’Donnell declined comment. WHS Athletics Director Christy Hayes said he could not comment beyond the press release and quickly hung up.
Neumann has been involved in Wilton Athletics since 1999 and has been the head soccer coach for six years. In the first week of September, Neumann collapsed to the ground and was rushed to Norwalk Hospital, where he had stayed for at least two days, according to Warrior Nation, a sports blog belonging to the Wilton Villager.
Ed's note: In the poll below, Scott Neumann was mistakenly called 'Paul Neumann.' We regret the error.
