St. Luke’s Head of School Mark Davis threw the first pitch of the last home game of the season. The moment was poignant for Davis, who soon retires after 20 years of service: “This is just one of many bittersweet lasts for me. Last pitch, last award ceremonies, last music and theater performances. And very soon, my last commencement address.”

Davis admitted to feeling some butterflies as he walked to the mound, but he had nothing to fear. He threw a perfect strike, wowing spectators and players from both teams. Those who know Davis were not surprised—baseball runs in his blood. He was a varsity player at Yale University and his father, Bob Davis, was a major league pitcher for the Kansas City Athletics. Davis also helped coach the St. Luke’s baseball team in his early Head of School days.
