Identity Theft Attempt Foiled at Wilton Library

Man answers phone, comes back to youth trying to steal his personal info from computer

10/11: At around 11:30 a.m. at the Wilton Library, a man had been using a public computer when he got up to use his cell phone. During this time, a 16-year-old male allegedly sat down at this same computer and began copying down personal information—apparently by hand— left by the previous user, according to police. The man, returning to his seat, was at first confused, but when the man realized what had transpired, he confronted the youth, police said. The youth tried to flee, but the man wrestled him to the ground and restrained him while police were contacted, police said. Police charged the juvenile offender with breach of peace and fifth-degree computer crime.

Bad checks at Outdoor Sports Center

10/6: Police arrested a 46-year-old Milford man for two counts of issuing a bad check totaling  about$3,100, according to reports. Police said that accused, William Horlacher, issued one check for approximately $2,900 dollars for a bicycle—which was later recovered at a Danbury pawn shop—and another check for about $200 to purchase hiking boots. The spurious checks were used at Outdoor Sports Center in Wilton.  Police arrested Horlacher at Norwalk Court while the accused was appearing on unrelated charges. He was arraigned and held on a $3,000 bond.

Starting fights at the game

10/6: During a high school football game versus Ridgefield on Wilton’s turf, a 19-year-old man appeared to do his part in keeping the two towns’ sports rivalry alive. Police reports say that the young man, Sergei Greenlee, of Wilton, was “starting arguments with others in the stands”; when administrators approached Greenlee, he was combative with them as well. When the police were summoned, an officer tried to restrain Greenlee, but the accused yanked his arm away. Police arrested Greenlee on breach of peace and issued him a misdemeanor summons. Police said they are also looking into another aspect of the case for more information, which involved a highly intoxicated individual at the same game.

Larcenies in high school parking lot

10/7: Two students’ vehicles had items stolen from them, sometime during the day in question, police said. One vehicle’s right rear window had been smashed open, allowing the thief to make off with an $80 iPod and an audio adapter cable, according to reports. The other vehicle, which had been left unlocked had a $120 Magellan GPS and an audio adapter cable stolen from it, police said. Reports say that the high school is reviewing surveillance video for suspects, and police are encouraging anyone with information about the crimes to call the police department.

Another charge in YMCA thefts

10/4: , Police arrested a 21-year-old Wilton man, Christopher Corvese in connection with several thefts at the YMCA. Police said that on 10/4, they linked the theft of an iPod device to Corvese. Reports say that the accused was charged with sixth-degree larceny while appearing at Norwalk Court; he was arraigned on the same day.

Mystery check

10/7: Police received a complaint from a Wilton resident who reportedly received a check from a shady business telling the resident he/she had been selected to be a “Mystery Shopper.” The resident looked into it, and found that the check was from a closed account, according to police. Police said they have no evidence that the business is actually in Wilton.

DUIs

10/9: Police observed a south-bound vehicle on Rte. 7 weaving within the lane and crossing over the center line while maneuvering a curve, according to reports. Police pulled over the vehicle and said that the driver, Jose Paguada, 36, of Danbury, had been drinking; police conducted a sobriety test, which the accused failed, and therefore was arrested, according to the reports.  During processing police said the driver was “found to have elevated blood alcohol content.”

10/6: Police stopped a vehicle just after midnight after the driver was caught “disobeying the stop sign as she traveled northbound on Belden Hill Road,” according to reports. Police said they conducted a field sobriety test on the accused, Sarah Homer, 24, of Ridgefield, which she failed; police arrested her for DUI.

Underage possession

10/5: Police arrested a 17-year-old male, from Wilton, for two counts of possession of a controlled substance 1500 feet from a school, according to reports. Police said that the youth was arrested at Merwin Meadows after an investigation about “suspicious youths” led to the discovery of the accused having in his possession marijuana and “prescription narcotics which did not belong to him.” The male was “transported to Norwalk Hospital at the request of his mother” after being processed, according to reports.
