K-9 Unit Tracks 94-Year-Old Woman on Second Night

The Wilton Police Department's newly acquired German Shepherd, Enzo, helped find a missing, disoriented Wilton woman Tuesday night.

In just their second night of work together, Officer Steven Rangel and the other half of the K-9 Unit, Enzo, a German Shepherd, helped track a missing 94-year-old woman who was found disoriented and cold in the backyard of an East Meadow Road home.

According to Wilton Police, on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 5:37 p.m. a Wilton resident reported that her mother was missing. The resident said she was last seen in Norwalk at 2:30 p.m. and should have been home by the time she called police. Since her car was not at the residence, the woman there was something wrong.

Rangel and Enzo arrived at the residence and gathered information. A subsequent "Silver Alert" was issued, and area departments were notified to help track down the woman.

"At 8:03 p.m., an East Meadow Road resident reported a suspicious car on her property," Captain John Lynch wrote in a news release. "When officers arrived, they determined that the car belonged to the missing woman. It was dark and the temperature was in the low 30s. Off. Rangel [and] Enzo arrived and started tracking the missing woman. Enzo headed toward the rear yard where the missing woman was located."

The woman was out in the cold for some time and was disoriented, police said.

"Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps was dispatched and transported the woman to Norwalk Hospital," Lynch wrote.
