Grumman Ave. Landlord: Tenants Are 'Friendly, Kind, Respectful'

Gary Lorentson, who rented his home to the married couple who were injured in a shooting on Monday, said the tenants have lived there almost two years.

"They're friendly, they're kind and they're respectful tenants."

That's what landlord Gary Lorentson told Patch on Wednesday about the married couple that has lived at 35 Grumman Avenue in Wilton for almost two years with their two children. Lorentson has owned the property since 1985.

On Monday morning, police responded to the residence after the 39 year-old wife called 911 from a neighbor's house to report she suffered a gunshot wound following a struggle with her 47 year-old husband over a rifle. He suffered life-threatening injuries to his face, police said, while his wife suffered less severe wounds to her face.

Lorentson said he's reached out to the wife, but hasn't yet heard back.

"I haven't talked to her, but have sent her an email," he said. "I've initiated contact."

Police said Tuesday that the couple were each shot by the same bullet after struggling over a rifle.

Lorentson said that while he doesn't have a lot of interaction with his tenants, he's observed that the family has taken care of the home. After a tree fell during Hurricane Sandy, they cut it up even though it wasn't on their property.

"They cut up the tree to allow cars to pass," he said.

Police had quarantined the house as they were collecting evidence, but Captain John Lynch said Tuesday the department had "released the house."

Though he's not yet been to the property since Monday's shooting, Lorentson said he has been in contact with police.

"Now for the first time, I'm free to do that," he said of going inside the house.

Police have yet to release the names of the couple or any details about their current condition. No charges have been filed yet and the incident remains under investigation.
