Letter: Swab-A-Thon A Success; Donor Found
A Wilton woman's niece found a donor for a much-needed bone marrow transplant.

Dear Editor,
Thank you to all that supported this past Saturday's , swabbing and donation event at the Wilton Family YMCA. It was a success.
I would like to thank the for hosting the event. Special thank you to Executive Director Bob McDowell and Health and Wellness Director Maryann Genuario for giving us their time and efforts. We would also like to thank Tracy Julian, our Be The Match representative, all the spin instructors, and the Wilton Gymnastic Team.

All proceeds raised for Be The Match are used to add potential donors to the National Bone Marrow Registry list. Each swabbing costs $100 to process and we were able to fund all of Saturday’s swabs.
Last week we were told that my niece Nora has found a potential match. The road is still long, the donors need to pass a physical screening and agree to be a donor but we now have a chance to give Nora her bone marrow transplant.

Although the search goes on, we have learned that another family is in need of finding a bone marrow match. This family lives in Wilton and they are looking to find a match for their five-year-old son Cole. We are praying we will have another success story.
Best,
Rachael Dineen
