Likly Takes Seat as New Wilton BoE Chair
As Likly steps up, Bray steps down to vice chair of Wilton's Board of Education.

With a slight majority vote, Bruce Likly took the spot as chairman of last night at the school board’s regularly scheduled meeting. Likly obtained the seat with a nomination of three votes, while two votes were cast for former chairman Gilmore Bray and one vote cast as an abstention. Bray took the position of vice chair with five votes for him and one abstention. Karen Brick, who has held positions as chair and vice chair, retained her position as secretary.
“I’m honored. I greatly appreciate this,” said Likly. “Gary, I look forward to working with you,” he said, turning to his right to face Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gary Richards.
Quickly after obtaining the position of chair, Likly asked for seats at the board’s tables to become “available on a first-come, first-serve basis” thus doing away with the traditional seating arrangement. Likly said he wanted board members to “have a different perspective” and engage with those whom they may not be used to talking with on a regular basis.

Likly also asked for the public to “please use the board’s email, come to speak to us at the meetings…We want you to know that you’re being heard,” he said.
