Man Gives Cop Fake ID, is Charged with DUI in Wilton

The man allegedly said he was "James Ruffin" and provided a fake ID with the same falsified information.

Yesterday, April 23, police pulled over a car travelling between 25 and 35 mph while swerving on Rte. 7 at 2:45 a.m., according to police reports. Police said that when they asked the driver, identified as Shawn James, 30, of 3rd Street in Ansonia, for his name and identification, the accused allegedly said his name was ‘James Ruffin’ and gave police a fake ID with that same name.

Police subsequently determined that James was had been drinking after the accused failed a sobriety test, according to police. Police charged James with third-degree forgery, DUI, and failure to drive in the proper lane; he was released on a $1,000 bond and given a promise to appear in court, according to police.
