Man's Best Friend, Enzo, Joins Wilton's Finest

The Wilton Police Department welcomed the newest addition to their force earlier this week, as , completed his nine-week training course with Officer Steven Rangel. Together, the duo will comprise Wilton's K-9 unit. 

"Their training consisted of tracking, agility, area search, narcotic detection, obedience, evidence recovery, building search and suspect apprehension," Captain John Lynch wrote in a press release. "The training included both classroom and field situations."

According to the Wilton Police Department's website, Enzo was born in Hungary in September 2010. 

According to Lynch, Rangel and Enzo will be able to track down lost or endangered people and chase and arrest culprits on the run. Enzo is also trained to sniff out illegal narcotics.

"Officer Rangel and Enzo will be assigned a normal patrol but will be available if needed on or off duty," Lynch wrote in the release. "Officer Rangel and Enzo have specific equipment and cruiser that enables them to operate efficiently. We look forward to having Enzo working with us on a daily basis."

Enzo's addition to the department was made possible by the Blue Buffalo Company, who donated $50,000 to help reestablish the program. Lynch said the Bishop family also deserved recognition for the program's reemergence. 

"The Wilton Police Department will continue to collect donations in an effort to keep this program running successfully for years to come," Lynch wrote in the release. "Anyone interested in information regarding the K-9 program or would like to donate may make their contribution to the Wilton Canine Program at 240 Danbury Rd., Wilton, CT 06897."
