Massive Oil Spill At Wilton Home Contaminates Drinking Wells: Report

Residents within 1,000 feet of the spill are asked to check their wells for contamination.

WILTON, CT-- Around 500 gallons of oil spilled in the basement of a home on Ridgefield Road in Wilton last week, and officials say at least two nearby drinking wells were contaminated, reports the Norwalk Hour.

The basement of the home has a dirt floor, which caused the oil to seep out of the house through cracks in the bedrock beneath the home. The spill occurred after two residential oil tanks malfunctioned.

The state's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is warning residents within 1,000 feet of 715 Ridgefield Road to check their wells from contamination.
