POLL: Keeping April Vacation Plans
With Wilton schools facing the threat of a reduced spring break, will you keep your vacation plans or break them to keep your kids in school?

As winter approaches, so too does the threat of more snow whiting out days in the school’s calendar year.
As previously reported, which begins on April 16, 2012. But some vacations are already planned, and parents will be pulling their kids out of school regardless of the makeup days. Here’s what Wilton Patch readers had to say about this subject:
“There will need to be plans in place for students who will be gone that week whether classes are canceled or not. Some people's plans are already confirmed and cannot be changed,” said commenter “Wilton Mom.”

“Honestly, High School kids and teachers and college students need a break from school too. Unfortunately, this is in consideration but you have to look at all the facts. Because of April being taken away because of weather, something that is completely uncontrollable. The school system is trying to make the best decision possible. Please consider everybody’s position before making anymore commentary,” said another Patch user, “Sarah.”
“It really doesn't make sense to cancel the February break when the likelihood of weather-related cancellations is so high. I don't think it has anything to do with ski-lovers; it’s just a probability thing. The school districts cannot worry about a short list of families who might have a vacation planned seven months in advance; ‘staycations’ on a shortened week can be just as relaxing and full of family time. I'm grateful they are making a plan this far in advance - everyone can plan accordingly. Let's all be pragmatic about this,” said “Denise.”

“Who is making this decision? Isn't the BOE aware that it would be a punishment not to have the break in April when it is more appropriate for the students. There are ample days/breaks that can be cancelled. How about teacher training days. We all know that in town conferences can be rescheduled so that the students don't get pushed beyond their frustration level! It's all about the students and not about the skiers!” said “Ramona Piccolo.”
So what do you think? Will you be going on vacation with your kids regardless if April vacation is shortened? Do you agree with the school board's decision? Chime in below with a comment, and vote in our poll.
