Punched, Kicked and Left on the Side of the Road

A tree worker from Ohio allegedly beat his coworker during a roadside dispute in Wilton.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace after beating his coworker and leaving him on the side of Olmstead Hill Road in Wilton on Sat. Dec. 17, according to police.

The incident concerned two workers from an Ohio-based company named ACW Tree Work; the men, also from Ohio, were apparently working for a residence in Ridgefield, police said. Apparently, the accused, David Leroy Trout, of Urbana, Ohio, stopped the truck he was driving due to an issue with the brakes, according to police. His co-worker, identified only as a 30-year-old male from Ohio, also got out of the truck. There was a dispute and Trout allegedly punched his coworker, knocking him to the ground, police said. Trout then allegedly kicked the victim with steel-toed work boots while the victim was on the ground and trying to cover up, according to police. Police said Trout then re-entered his vehicle and drove away. The victim eventually got up to flag down a car and subsequently the police were called, according to police. Police apparently sought out the accused and arrested him.

The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital for observations and complained of pains, but had no outwardly visible injuries, police said. He was treated and released from the hospital but was not admitted, police said.
