Ref Knocked Out at Adult Soccer Game for Issuing a Red Card

Six arrested at DUI checkpoint
9/10: On Friday, from 7 p.m. – 3 a.m., Wilton Police Officers established a DUI stop on Rte. 7 near the Cricket Lane intersection. Six persons were arrested for driving under the influence.
“That’s high. Last year we didn’t have any, or maybe one. It’s somewhat disturbing,” said Captain John Lynch of the Wilton Police Department.

According to reports, the following persons were arrested for DUI: Jose Carvallo, 45, of Fairfield; Melanie Fox, 47, of Fairfield; Jose Reyes, 47, of Danbury; Christopher Gamache, 45, of Wilton; Brook West, 49, of Brookfield; and Thomas Swanhaus, 31, of New Canaan.
Ref sucker punched, knocked unconscious at adult soccer game

9/11: After a 50-year-old male referee issued a red card to a player during an adult soccer game, he was knocked unconscious from a punch to the face that came from behind, police said. The accused, Sebastian Lazar, 40, of Stamford, had apparently become enraged at the call, which was apparently given to one of his teammates, causing Lazar to “grab the ref from the rear” and punch “him in the right side of the head, causing the ref to be knocked unconscious,” according to reports. The referee is a Ridgefield resident, according to police. He was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment. Police arrested Lazar for assault in the third degree and breach of peace; he was released with a promise to appear in court.
Nearly $1,000 stolen from parked vehicle
9/10: An unlocked car parked in the parking lot, located at 77 Danbury Road, had several items stolen from it between the times of 4:30 and 8:30 a.m, according to police. Items removed included a GPS, sneakers, a phone charger, a computer charger, and other “compute equipment” and clothing valued at a total of “just under $1,000,” according to police. The hood of the vehicle was found to be popped when the owner returned.
Residential burglary under investigation
9/12: Police received a complaint of a residential burglary on Belden Hill Road. Details are sparse at this time, since it is still an open investigation. Police said that there was no sign of forced entry, and that several items of jewelry were reported stolen.
Mailboxes smacked
9/11: Five mailboxes which had been installed on a single post were knocked over on Autumn Ridge Road, police said.
