Two More Cars Burgled, DUIs in Wilton

DUIs on Rte. 7

5/28: Police observed a vehicle “traveling erratically” in the southbound lane of Rte. 7 at 1:30 a.m. and pulled the vehicle over, police reports state. Subsequent investigation found that the driver stated he had been texting; police then gave the driver a field sobriety test, which he failed, police reports state. The driver, Michael Knox, 25, of Arnold Lane in Norwalk, was also found to be in possession of a pipe which allegedly had marijuana resin within it, and also blew a .104 BAC , police said. Residue in a pipe is reason for marijuana possession under state law, and police charged Knox with possession of less than 4 oz. of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI, using a cell phone while driving, and failure to drive right, according to police reports. He was released on a promise to appear in court.,

5/27:  Police received a report from a motorist who complained about a vehicle driving erratically on Rte. 7; police then found a vehicle in the area of new Street “straddling the double yellow lines” and pulled the vehicle over, according to police reports. Captain John Lynch of the Wilton Police Department said the responding officer had “smelled an alcoholic beverage” on the driver and that the driver refused a BAC test. The driver, identified as Kent Brooks, 56, of Great Pond Lane in Redding, was then arrested for DUI; then, when police searched him, a “plastic bag containing suspected marijuana” was located on “his person” as well as a “brown tube containing a suspected marijuana cigarette,” the police reports state. Police said that Kent was also unable to locate a valid insurance card for his vehicle. Police charged Kent with DUI, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, failure to drive right on a curve, and driving without insurance, the reports state. He was released on a promise to appear in court.

Two more purses stolen from parked cars

5/27: Two cars’ windows were smashed and two purses, one from each car, were stolen in a larceny incident at the parking lot between 4:30 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., according to Lynch. Lynch said that the purses contained credit cards and other miscellaneous items.

Car break-ins, Lynch said, are “sporadic. We’ll get a few, and then they’ll disappear for a while and then someone else will do it.” He said that there was no substantial evidence that these break-ins were related to the at the parking lot last week.

Lynch said that the will be checking in with other towns for leads.
