Wilton Firefighter Killed In Crash Had 'Incredibly Generous Spirit'

The memorial service for Kyle Schlatter will be held at Raymond Funeral Home​ in Norwalk, on Friday from 1-4 p.m.

WILTON, CT — The Wilton volunteer firefighter killed in a crash last week will be laid to rest on Friday.

Kyle Schlatter, 36, died when his motorcycle crashed traveling along Route 7 in Ridgefield last Thursday. Schlatter crossed over into the northbound lane of traffic and was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by a 46-year-old Bridgeport man, shortly before 11 p.m., according to a report from the Ridgefield Police Department.

Schlatter leaves behind a wife and son. A GoFundMe page has been established by the Georgetown fire company's assistant chief, Steve Santa, to help provide financial support for the family.

According to his obituary, Schlatter was a triplet, born and raised in Norwalk. He was also "a renaissance man with an incredibly generous spirit," and "an accomplished tradesman, electrician, woodworker, mechanic." An avid outdoorsman, and "spent his spare time engaging in activities like boating, fishing, and motorcycling, often inviting friends and family to join him in these pursuits."
