Wilton Officials Warn Of Fraudulent Invoices Targeting P&Z Applicants
Wilton police warn residents about fake invoices demanding wire transfers from Planning and Zoning applicants.
WILTON, CT — Wilton officials are warning residents and businesses about fraudulent invoices sent to people who recently filed applications with the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
According to a notice issued Wednesday, the Wilton Police Department and the Planning and Zoning Department have received reports of scams targeting applicants who used the OpenGov.com permitting portal for special permit and zone change submissions. Similar attempts may be affecting other town boards and commissions.
Victims reported receiving messages demanding large wire-transfer payments before their applications could proceed. Officials said the correspondence was made to appear legitimate, using town letterhead and accurate details about applications, property addresses and town staff.

Authorities called the scheme part of a broader nationwide criminal operation affecting multiple Connecticut communities.
The Planning and Zoning Department emphasized it does not accept wire transfers for application fees. Payments must be made in person at the department’s office in the Town Hall Annex or through the town’s official online permitting system.
