Wilton Police Charge Suspect In Fake Invoice Scheme
Wilton police identified a suspect in a phony invoice scheme targeting residents and businesses after an extensive investigation.
WILTON, CT — Wilton police have charged a suspect in connection with a scheme involving fraudulent invoices sent under the name of the Town of Wilton Planning and Zoning Commission.
Police said multiple reports were received in July 2024 from residents who had been contacted with fake invoices requesting payment of application fees via wire transfer to a bank account in Texas.
An investigation by Wilton detectives included the recovery of bank records and ultimately led to the identification of a suspect. Authorities said an apprehension was made on Wednesday.
