The first occurred on April 16 at approximately 6:46 a.m., when officers stopped a gray Toyota Sienna traveling southbound on Danbury Road near Sharp Hill Road. The vehicle had visible damage, including deployed driver-side curtain airbags and a tire reduced to its rim. Police said the driver, identified as Marcelo Vargas, 60, of the Bronx, New York, appeared impaired and could not recall where the damage occurred. He did not perform standardized field sobriety tests to standard, according to police.
Chemical testing showed Vargas’ blood alcohol content measured .1335 and .1262. He was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving. Vargas was released after posting a portion of a $300 bond and is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on April 25.
