Wilton SUV Crash Traps Driver, Leads to DUI Arrest

Failing to stop, a Jeep slammed into the back of a Honda and rolled over onto its side last Friday in Wilton.

A 1998 Jeep SUV collided into the rear of a stopped vehicle and then rolled onto its side, trapping the driver, last Friday at around 6 p.m. in Wilton on the southbound lane of Danbury Road, police reports state.

According to police, two cars were stopped at the stop light just before Sharp Hill Road; the Jeep came up from behind, veered to the right and then crashed into a 2007 Honda SUV, which then smacked into the back of a 2011 Ford SUV. The collision caused the Jeep to roll over onto its driver side, causing the Jeep’s driver to require extraction from the , reports state. The Jeep’s driver, identified as Amy Moran, 34, of Old Ridgefield Road, Wilton, was subsequently found to be intoxicated, arrest reports state. Captain John Lynch of the said that Moran had also been driving with a license that had been expired since May 2011.

One witness said that he/she did not see the Jeep attempt to stop or slow down before the accident; another witness said that the Jeep did not seem to be speeding and that “he [the witness] thought the driver was dazed, but strangely calm considering what just happened,” the accident report states.

Police identified the driver of the Honda SUV as Susan Dorenbosch, 53, of Charlie Hill Lane, Redding, and the Ford’s driver as Michael Goldstein 46, of Redding Road, Redding. Dorenbosch* and Moran were transported to Norwalk Hospital for unspecified minor injuries, according to police. The Honda* and Jeep “were towed away by Heibeck Motors due to heavy damage,” reports read. 

Police arrested Moran for DUI, following too close, driving without a license and driving without insurance. Police released the accused on a promise to appear in court.
