WILTON, CT — Wilton Town Administrator Matthew Knickerbocker has announced he will not seek to renew his contract when it expires in September.

"It's been a real pleasure; many, many, many, many, many, many, many challenges in the position," Knickerbocker told the BOS. The Democrat and former Bethel first selectman has served in his Wilton position from 2009 to 2022. Knickerbocker recently reported being involved in a hit-and-run crash.

Knickerbocker was the first person to serve as town administrator in Wilton, a position created to support the first selectperson by overseeing administrative and operational functions. The role was established under former First Selectwoman Lynne Vanderslice, who said it was designed to alleviate the expanding responsibilities of the town’s top elected official and ensure continuity in managing municipal operations.

During Monday’s meeting, Knickerbocker and members of the Board of Selectmen reviewed the position’s key responsibilities, which include budget development, performance evaluation, financial accounting, and oversight of major municipal development projects.
