Woman Arrested for Stealing Yankee Candles from Y

Two thefts were reported in Wilton.

Carol Tan, 45, of Stamford was charged with larceny in the sixth degree after she allegedly stole $125 worth of Yankee Candles from the Wilton YMCA in November 2012.

According to police, video surveillance captured a woman stealing the candles from a room at the Y. Last month, the candles were returned, along with a note apologizing for the theft.

Tan turned herself in on a warrant on Feb. 1 at 8:15 p.m. She was released on a promise to appear in court Feb. 11.

Six spools of copper wire were stolen from the Wilton Commons building sometime overnight on Feb. 1. The theft was reported to police on Feb. 2 at 7:23 a.m.

The door of the room in which the wire was stored was padlocked shut. Someone had smashed the lock open.

Police said there was other copper present in the room, which was left behind.

The copper stolen was worth $500, police said.
